End-to-end track & trace

19 June 2026

Smart code recognition and real-time data management ensure full traceability throughout the line.

Always know exactly where every single container is at any given moment. Identify and reject any that are not safe for use. Prevent recalls or at least manage them systematically. Ensure protection against counterfeiting. Manage the returnable container pool and conserve valuable resources: With precise monitoring and tracking, modular HEUFT systems create full transparency and traceability throughout the filling and packaging process. From empty bottle inspection through fill management and labelling to foreign object detection at the end of the line: the equipment from the leading supplier is typically installed throughout the entire filling and packaging plant to ensure product quality and remove anything that could threaten consumer well-being and the brand’s reputation.

For this to succeed, the exact location of every single product must be known at all times, right through to the rejection verification. With almost 50 years’ experience in container transport, line analysis and line optimisation, HEUFT knows what is required to achieve such gapless product tracking: With an accuracy of up to 0.5 millimetres, the system engineers’ devices use sensors to determine the current position of every single product and track it continuously in real time via a ‘shift register’ – if only to ensure that every single product is inspected and that any identified as faulty is actually rejected.

Prevent recalls and product counterfeiting, manage resources

Using codes – including a unique ID – on every package which are verified by HEUFT reflexx A.I. cameras, combined with real-time data management, this results in end-to-end track & trace. That helps to meet regulatory requirements and effectively prevent costly, reputation-damaging product liability cases and product recalls. Should such a situation nevertheless arise – for example, if the product is contaminated with bacteria that even HEUFT’s advanced detection technologies are not yet able to identify in-line – all inspection results remain documented in detail and permanently. The batch affected by the recall can be narrowed down with such precision to the individual product actually identified as defective that the protection of the brand does not amount to a waste of resources.

Because the intelligent cameras, developed and manufactured in-house, can be integrated into various HEUFT devices installed throughout the entire plant, the complete filling process becomes traceable. This ensures effective prevention of product counterfeiting. At the same time, it enables transparent resource and pool management: non-marketable packaging is identified, tracked and safely rejected. And returnable containers are traced throughout their entire service life, ensuring that the whole pool and, for example, the target maximum number of fill cycles are always kept under control.

Serialise, aggregate and trace

In addition to a wide range of tasks for empty and full container inspection, the smart cameras also handle the reading and verification of barcodes and 2D Data Matrix codes on primary, secondary and tertiary packaging. This means that the origin, authenticity, transport and process data stored within them can be unambiguously assigned to a specific packaging unit throughout the entire line and expanded to include newly added items. Simply scanning the code on the pallet is enough to determine exactly where in the pallet a specific carton is located and in which of its compartments the individual container in question can be found. The real-time data management of network-compatible HEUFT systems ensures that all information contained in the codes is securely transmitted and archived for the long term.

All key figures, operational and quality data obtained during inspection and line analysis with the HEUFT CyBridge.profiler are incorporated – right down to the individual detection images generated when inspecting empty and full containers. Together with HEUFT reflexx A.I. cameras, the production data acquisition tool generates big data for production that can be traced at any time. Audit trails, proof of origin and complete documentation are thus just as easily achievable as the unambiguous identification and complete tracing, serialisation and aggregation of a wide variety of products and packaging materials. Regardless of whether a specific individual container is still on the line, in a carton or tray, or already fully packed on a pallet: its exact position can be determined at any time and tracked and documented throughout the entire filling and packaging process.
